Metal Honing
Honing is a final finishing operation we conduct on surfaces; typically inside a cylinder. Abrasive stones are used along a controlled path to remove minute amounts of material in order to tighten the tolerance on cylindricity. We use honing to both improve the geometric form of a surface and to improve the surface finish.
Our Sunnen machines can hone diameters 3" to 22" with a 60" stroke or diameters of .160 to 3.5" with a 6" stroke. Among the parts that we hone are cylinder liners and piston bores.
